49th Mega Record & CD Fair Jaarbeurs Utrecht April 14th & 15th 2018

49th edition Mega Record & CD Fair | April 14 & 15, 2018 | Jaarbeurs Utrecht, the Netherlands

Vinyl Fever at the 49th Mega Record & CD Fair, the Netherlands
Jaarbeurs Utrecht, hunting ground of music lovers

On Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th of April the 49th Mega Record & CD Fair will take place at the Jaarbeurs Utrecht, the Netherlands. This biannual show – as always held in conjunction with the International Collectors Fair – is renowned as the greatest record fair in the world by DJs, experts, collectors and fans of pop music. Over 500 exhibitors from all over the globe will display the collected history of pop music from the past sixty years in the shape of singles, albums, 12-inches, CDs and DVDs. As usual the programme includes live performances, signing sessions and guest deejays. This edition of the fair will highlight in particular the history of Disco.

45 years of Disco Fever 1973-2018

The exhibit: 45 years of Disco Fever is curated by Patrick Lejeune and consists mostly items from his own collection. Lejeune who is better known as DiscoPatrick has been collecting since 1978. In collaboration with Patrick Vogt he published two books. The most recent one, Disco – An Encyclopaedic Guide to the Cover Art of Disco Records, was published in 2014 by SOULJAZZ in London, and is the standard book on the subject. The exhibit has been built up with the use of a timeline that starts with the birth of disco in 1973, the beginnings of the DJ-culture, the creation of the remix, the birth of the 12-inch, and the debut of the synthesizer. Vinyl is hot!

The main attraction of the fair remains the gigantic assortment of records on offer. Partly thanks to young people‘s enthusiasm for deejaying, vinyl is hot again. There is no fun without vinyl – in pubs, at parties, at home and all kinds of gatherings playing records is a must. The crucial accessory at the last couple of Mega Fairs was the portable record player to listen to vinyl on site before buying.

Thank You, Walter: A Night of Steely Dan worship with JP at Spiritland.

What better way to start the new year with 4 hours of music related to Steely Dan. Original material, beats, breaks and some great little interview snippets from Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. This show gives you a insight to the importance of this band and a renewed appreciation of what music is all about.

Some Henry Rollins Quotes in Passion For Vinyl

Passion For Vinyl

Passion for vinyl is a tribute to vinyl with a second volume currently in the works, I will use my blog to highlight for of the real vinyl lovers and add a few answers from interviews. The book featured a diverse selection of people ranging from DJ´s, musicians, label owners, designers, records dealers, collectors, and engineers: link

Henry Rollins

Henry Rollins stormed the world as the singer of hardcore band Black Flag. He continued his music career with his own Henry Rollins Band. In recent years he is selling out theaters with his spoken word performances. He is also an actor, writer, publisher, journalist, activist and radio host. Whatever he does, he does it with total dedication. It’s with this same passion he collects records. He often shares his love for vinyl in his column in the LA Weekly, encouraging his readers to get into the grooves as well. ‘So, before your ears are too far gone, show them you love them and get a turntable plugged into your system immediately. Get some good records and get down with it!’

Henry Rollins

Were you tempted to abandon vinyl when the CD was introduced?

“I bought a lot of CDs. They sounded good to me at first, then they didn’t. I sold some records when CDs came out, mainly to pay rent and consolidate space. I bought replacements later.’

Is there any particular rare or special album you are very proud to own?

‘I have quite a few “rare” records as well but I don’t take pride in any of it, I am just interested in the record. Perhaps the first record I would run out of the house with if the place was burning down is not the rarest record I have, per se. It is the second pressing of a friend’s band’s record but it was his mother’s copy and he gave it to me as a gift, so that one’s very important to me.’

Love this Video from Record Industry

You’ve probably heard that vinyl is back—sales of vinyl records have been on the rise and many people are discovering (or re-discovering!) the joys of record collecting. A lot of those records come from Record Industry. The Netherlands-based company has been operating since 1958, and is one of the largest vinyl pressing plants in the world. Owner Ton Vermuelen gave us a look inside the factory to see how *40,000—50,000* records get made every day.
